NFL Week 2 Power Rankings - Kansas City Chiefs Tops

NFL Power Rankings - updated after the conclusion of Week 1 games. The Kansas City Chiefs are the top team.

Week 2 of the current NFL season has started. On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Chargers suffered a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24. The Chiefs were our Week 2 No. 1 team in the power rankings. In a game against the No. 5 team, the Chiefs posted a convincing win that will likely keep them atop our ranking heading into Week 3.

However, what should become of the Los Angeles Chargers? They certainly did not suffer a blowout in Week 2, they looked like the better team for long stretches, and it was just one mistake, a 99-yard pick-6, that cost them the game. While it's normal to move down when you lose, it's fair to say that the LA Chargers should just be kept where they are for now.

Here's a look at our Top 10 in the NFL for power rankings as fans and pundits start to look ahead to Sunday's Week 2 games.

NFL Power Rankings

  1. Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)
  2. Buffalo Bills (1-0)
  3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0)
  4. Baltimore Ravens (1-0)
  5. Los Angeles Chargers (1-1)
  6. New Orleans Saints (1-0)
  7. Minnesota Vikings (1-0)
  8. Green Bay Packers (0-1)
  9. Los Angeles Rams (0-1)
  10. New York Giants (1-0)

Patrick Mahomes is the difference maker

The Kansas City Chiefs opened their regular season with a 23-point trouncing of a middle team in the league, the Arizona Cardinals. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes looked amazingly sharp, throwing for 360 yards on 30 for 39 passing. He also connected for five touchdowns in Week 1, playing results that will earn him player of the week in a lot of NFL circles. The Chiefs look strong to do better than 11.5 wins this season, their current wins total with bet365 (odds 6/5, +120).

The Buffalo Bills will likely be atop most power rankings as of Tuesday. Buffalo won on the road, defeating the Los Angeles Rams. However, the Rams might be well overrated this season.

Josh Allen, Buffalo's quarterback, isn't as good as Patrick Mahomes and it makes the Chiefs the better team. One thing to remember with the Bills is that they started last season really strong before going through a mediocre stretch that included a stinker-loss to Jacksonville. Their win total is 12.5 with bet365 and the UNDER should be taken at 6 to 5 (6/5 or +120).

Tampa Bay rounds out the top 3 for NFL Power Rankings

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Sunday nighter, a game that will be remembered for the injury to Dak Prescott. The Bucs actually made the Cowboys look awful and that will raise one question: are the Cowboys actually awful or did the Bucs make a good team look that way? Either way, the ship in TB is steady as she goes even if the Bucs lacked a little bit of offensive punch in a 19-3 win. Stand pat on the Bucs at the moment with +3 on the Saints looking good in Week 2 for New Orleans.

Saquon Barkley Helps New York Giants into Top 10 for NFL Power Rankings

The inclusion of the New York Giants in our Top 10 might draw some raised eyebrows. However, Saquon Barkley ran roughshod in Week 1 with 164 yards. The often-injured player can only be judged to be at full health right now.

The Giants also beat Tennessee in a game that the Titans hosted. Quarterback Daniel Jones played well in the opener, completing 17 of 21 passes. He did get sacked too many times but the completion percentage was the highest of his career. The result of the game and the stats are both head-turning. The Giants to make the playoffs at 17 to 10 (17/10 or +170) is there for the taking with bet365.

Recommendations with bet365:

  • Buffalo Bills UNDER 12.5 wins
  • New York Giants to make the playoffs
