Explaining our NFL Week 4 Power Rankings

Miami is No. 1 by virtue of its undefeated record that includes two difficult victories over Buffalo and Baltimore. The Bills aren’t dropped too far because they only lost to the No. 1 team by 2 points in a game that Miami hosted.

The Packers beat the Bucs and, in a league with few undefeated teams, Green Bay’s 2-1 record is solid enough for third given that they beat a top team.

Philly, although they are in style when it comes to being overrated, still has not beaten anyone good this season. Beating up Minnesota and Washington while only edging Detroit does not prove enough.

We dropped KC down a lot because they lost to Indianapolis, a team that has no other significant result yet this season. In fact, Indy tied the worst team in the league and they suffered a shutout in Week 2. Losing to Indy is discrediting.

Jacksonville Jaguars in Top Ten

The inclusion of Jacksonville is what promises to raise some eyebrows. The Jaguars are 2-1 and they have a loss to Washington from Week 1 dragging them down. But a 24-0 drubbing of Indianapolis followed by a 28-point spread against the Los Angeles Chargers in a game LA hosted has to be respected.

It’s easy to discount the victory against LA on the basis that Justin Herbert seemed to play injured. However, Trevor Lawrence and his offense still scored 38 points on the road. Full respect to Jacksonville for their 2-1 start, no asterisks required.
