Jets signing Mecole Hardman

Another Kansas City Chiefs WR is leaving the team after the Super Bowl LVII title against the Eagles

The Kansas City Chiefs keep losing their wide receivers this offseason. After JuJu Smith-Schuster hit the free agency market and sign with the New England Patriots, it’s time for another Super Bowl LVII champion to leave the team and go to the AFC East. The New York Jets are signing WR Mecole Hardman.

According to the reports, Hardman is signing a one-year, $6.5 million contract with the Jets. This is the second huge signing by New York’s green franchise with a WR after the visit from Aaron Rodgers. First, they acquired Allen Lazard, and now Mecole Hardman.

Lazard was one of Rodgers' requests to go to New York and sign with the Jets, per sources. But besides Lazard, this supposed list had another WR name: Odell Beckham Jr. Mecole Hardman is no OBJ but this doesn’t mean he is not good. It will be curious to see Hardman playing in one of the following scenarios:

  1. With a random and not-as-good as Patrick Mahomes quarterback; or
  2. With Aaron Rodgers, another great QB in the NFL for any WR in the league

Truth is that the Jets are building a fire offense but they still have Zach Wilson as their QB so far. If they don’t land Rodgers, they’ll have to think of a plan B, because fans would rather die than see Wilson trying to get this offense going again.

He is still one of the young talents in the league. Being only 25 years old, Hardman was drafted in 2019 by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round, with the no. 56 overall pick. He spent his first four seasons with the franchise and won two Super Bowls (LIV and LVII) already.

During his time in the NFL, he played in 57 games. He was targeted 220 times and managed to catch 151 passes, summing up 2,088 yards and 16 touchdowns. The WR is also a threat running with the ball as he has 20 carries for 125 yards and another two TDs in the league. Last but not least, he has also two touchdowns returning kicks (one punt and one kickoff).
