The Atlanta Falcons and the Detroit Lions will meet in what appears to be an intriguing game on Sunday, September 24th, 2023. This will be part of the early set of NFL games on Sunday in Week 3. The Falcons vs Lions injury report sharply favors the visiting Atlanta team in this game. In fact, such is the state of injuries between the two teams that you would think that there is an upset brewing in this contest.

Atlanta vs Detroit Prediction: Recent NFL News

The Atlanta Falcons enter the game with a 2-0 record. They managed to sneak a one-point spread in against the Green Bay Packers last week. Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions suffered a setback in Week 2. They fell to the Seattle Seahawks in a physical game that went to overtime. The result against Seattle seems to have taken its toll on the Detroit Lions.

Detroit listed eight players on their half of the injury report this week. One player, Frank Ragnow, is listed on the report for purposes related to rest. All of the other players had injuries listed (ie. not rest/personal/illness). In fact, Ragnow, who is a near mainstay on Detroit's injury report, had a toe injury listed.

As of Thursday, all of the players on the Detroit side of the injury report were either DNP or limited. That included several starters in addition to Ragnow. Josh Reynolds is on the report and so is fellow wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Furthermore, Detroit's RB1, David Montgomery, is on the injury report as a DNP so far this week due to a thigh injury.

Atlanta, conversely, is almost in full health. They have listed five names on the report this week. However, only two of them remain of concern following practice on Thursday. Cordarelle Patterson, the team's RB3, was DNP with a thigh injury on Thursday. Bud Dupree is the only starter on the report for Atlanta who was DNP as of Thursday. He is listed as ill. All in all, the report looked great from Atlanta's perspective.

Falcons vs Lions injury report: Betting Tips

The Falcons are +3.0 in this game and at odds of -110 (bet365). However, they look like they could waltz into Detroit and come away with a win. The handicap is the safe bet but bettors should not be afraid of +145 on the moneyline in this game. Detroit has so many starters with some kind of problem, that you have to think that they will be shorthanded come Sunday. If Atlanta is missing Dupree and Patterson, then it would hardly qualify as a bad situation given how normal it is for some injuries to be present at any given time. My recommendation is to take betting lines favoring Atlanta in this game.
