The Indiana Pacers franchise is a pro-basketball team that plays in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Pacers play their home games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Pacers were originally founded in 1967 as a part of the American Basketball Association (ABA). They joined the NBA when the two leagues merged in 1976. In total, the team has won nine division titles, one conference title, and three championships. However, the trio of league championships came as members of the ABA and not the NBA.

Interesting Fact

The Pacers have a number of Hall of Fame players: Alex English, 1997; Adrian Dantley, 2008; Gus Johnson, 2010; Chris Mullin, 2011; Mel Daniels, 2012; Reggie Miller, 2012 and Roger Brown, 2013. Their player, Rick Smits – The Dunking Dutchman, is among the Tallest Players in the NBA Hall of Fame, standing at 7 ft 4.

Heading into the 2023/24 NBA season, the Pacers are among a group of teams that have yet to claim an NBA title. Their best chance came at the turn of the century when Reggie Miller was their best player. However, that team fell just short to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Indiana Pacers 2023 NBA Draft Picks

The Indiana Pacers had the seventh overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. They selected Bilal Coulibaly, an 18-year-old small forward. However, the Pacers traded him to the Washington Wizards, who now own his rights.

With the 26th pick in the draft, Indiana selected Ben Sheppard, a 21-year old shooting guard who played for Belmont last season. With the 29th pick, Indiana selected Julian Strawther, a small forward out of Gonzaga. The Pacers also had the 32nd overall pick and they took Jalen Pickett but traded him to Denver. Lastly, with one of the final picks in the draft, the Pacers selected Isaiah Wong, a point guard.

All in all, the night was a pretty active one for Indiana as they had multiple selections and were involved in multiple trades.

Indiana Pacers 2023/24 season preview

The Indiana Pacers were not that bad of a team in the 2022/23 NBA season. However, they missed both the NBA playoffs and the Eastern Conference's play-in tournament. They did flirt with a successful season for a short time thanks to the play of Tyrese Haliburton and rookie Benedict Mathurin. However, when Haliburton suffered injuries the Pacers really struggled.

Heading into the 2023/24 season, a lot seems to be riding on these two players. The starters and supporting cast could be viewed as good enough to get to the playoffs. But Haliburton's injury makes the team questionable. If he plays in 65 or more games, then Indiana could be a playoff threat, especially if Buddy Hield and Myles Turner remain effective.
