Daniil Medvedev has survived a tough draw in the opening rounds of the 2023 ATP Vienna event. Next, the Russian will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in what will be a semifinal match in the tournament. This is a semifinal between two players that are each in the Top Ten on the ATP Tour. However, Medvedev has been the sharper player in recent events. My Medvedev vs Tsitsipas prediction is that the former will win this match as the latter has been off-form for a while now.

Recent Match Results for Daniil Medvedev

Medvedev is 6-2 in sets played thus far in Vienna this week. That isn't an elite performance but he did face some tricky opponents. Firstly, Medvedev had no trouble with Arthur Fils in the first round. In the second round, Medvedev dropped a set to Grigor Dimitrov before winning. In the quarterfinals, Medvedev defeated Karen Khachanov in a three-setter. It has not been the most efficient week for the World No. 3 but the early-round opponents have been better than your normal early-rounders. It is to Medvedev's credit that he has survived a tricky draw in Vienna.

Daniil Medvedev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Head-to-Head Series

Medvedev and Tsitsipas have faced one another twelve times in the past in tour-level matches. Medvedev owns an 8-4 series lead, including a win in their most recent match. Tsitsipas did win two matches at about this time last year on the hard-court surface. While that is a point to take away, bettors should also realize that Tsitsipas was playing much better about a year ago.

If you turned back the clock twelve months, the Greek was hitting form that would carry him to the Australian Open final. He has not really been playing that well lately. In looking ahead to this match, bettors should note recent losses to Arthur Fils, Ugo Humbert, Nicolas Jarry, Alex Molcan, and Dominic Stricker -- all players much lower ranked than Tsitsipas or Medvedev. At the current tournament, Tsitsipas has had a pretty easy draw so his place in the semifinals need not be put on a pedestal.

Medvedev vs Tsitsipas Prediction: Medvedev wins

My recommendation is to take Medvedev to win this match at -275 (bet365). Tsitsipas did serve well in the last match but Medvedev's return game looms large in this match. In the last round, he faced a big service game from Khachanov but Medvedev earned six break-point opportunities. When it comes to backing Tsitsipas at this point, you would be looking for at least +450 against the top players and that's not available.
