João AKA “jaosouthside” is handicapper with a background few in the industry can claim. He began his career as an broker for major European betting syndicates, where his role was to monitor global odds and execute high-volume trades across both sharp and soft sportsbooks.
This experience gave him a deep understanding of market mechanics, leading him to develop proprietary methods for finding value in underdogs and capitalizing on line movements before the public catches on. Through his global network, João discovered a passion for quantitative analysis, exploring how algorithms could consistently identify EV+ (Positive Expected Value) opportunities. Today, he leverages this powerful blend of old-school market sense and modern data science to help bettors of all levels—from novice to professional.
As a leader in the North American market, ThePicks sought a true global expert to broaden our analytical horizons. With his unique background in European syndicates and deep roots in the South American betting scene, João was the clear choice.
After a notable tenure at Betopedia, João joined ThePicks to spearhead our international coverage. He brings a crucial global perspective to our team, identifying opportunities in markets that often go unnoticed by analysts focused solely on the US. He is now dedicated to sharing his unique insights with ThePicks community, connecting his personal betting strategies with actionable advice to help our members build a more profitable betting experience.
