The San Francisco Forty-Niners, more commonly known as the 49ers of San Francisco 49ers is the professional American Football team that is found in the San Francisco Bay Area. They are a part of the NFC West Division in the National Football Conference (NFC) of the National Football League. The team plays its home games at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara California, which is 61km Southeast of San Francisco.
The team was originally established back in June 1944 and was named after the prospectors who migrated to Northern California during the Gold Rush in 1949. They have their headquarters in the Marie P DeBartolo Sports Center in Santa Clara, California. They were originally a part of the All-America Football Conference between 1946 and 1949 as part of the Western Division. In 1950 they moved over to the National Football League as a part of the NFC between 1050 and 1952 before moving to the Western Conference from 1953 until 1969. After the NFL/AFL merger in 1970, the 49ers joined the NFC as one of the NFL clubs in the NFC West division.

The team has also been Division Champions 20 times between 1970 and 2019, which makes them one of the most successful NFL clubs in the history of the league. Moreover, the team ranks fourth of all-time in terms of playoff wins – 32 wins from the 28 times they have reached the playoffs. They have also taken part in 16 NLC Championship Games – the most of any team.

San Francisco 49ers Main Rivalries
The San Francisco 49ers main rivals:
The Los Angeles Rams
The 49ers and Los Angeles Rams rivalry is the stuff NFL legends are made of – considered by many to be one of the best in the sport. It all started after the LA Rams relocated to St Louis and the papers thus declared that even so, the Rams would always be the 48ers greatest rivals. Even though they had moved from Los Angeles it didn’t matter – they could play their home games in the UK and they would still be deadly rivals. This is, in part, because the LA Rams is the only team that has played the 49ers twice for more than 58 seasons – which means well over 100 games – and that’s just regular-season. In the regular-season statistics, most games have been won by the 49ers, with an all-time regular-season record of 72-67-3. They have met but once in the playoffs, in 1989, which saw the 49ers win by 30 points to 3.
The Seattle Seahawks have been 49ers rivals since the 2002 realignment, after being placed in the same division. Previous to this, they played each other practically every season in pre-season but only once every three years in regular season games. Their rivalry is not as intense as other rivalries, mainly because the teams tend to peak at different times, which means they aren’t usually playing at the top of their game at the same time. The rivalry became more intense in 2011 when Jim Harbaugh joined the 49ers from Stanford – as he and the Seahawks Coach – former USC Head Coach had a strong college rivalry. In total, The Seattle Seahawks lead the way with a record of 20-15.
The Arizona Cardinals are becoming more recent rivals and have been division rivals since 2002 – and it is more recently that there has started to become a little bit of bad blood between the two teams’ players – including a Twitter fight between the 49ers Dashon Goldson and the Cardinal’s Darnell Dockett. There was also a time when Cardinals player, Early Doucet, threw punches at the 49ers player Dashon Goldson. This has continued to become more heated as the years progress. However, right now it is the 48ers that lead the way with 37 wins compared to the Cardinals 27 wins.
