The veteran cornerback is leaving the Minnesota Vikings after two seasons and will play for his third career team
The Minnesota Vikings are one of the teams losing the most players this past couple of days with trades. Among the losses, now is a cornerback who was tied-second in the interceptions ranking last season. The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing Patrick Peterson, a veteran CB who had five INT in 2022.
According to the Associated Press, who first revealed the agreement, and then confirmed by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Peterson’s new contract is worth $14 million for two years. He arrives in Pittsburgh to join Minkah Fitzpatrick and form the franchise’s secondary.
The Steelers traded away Cam Sutton to the Detroit Lions, cut William Jackson and benched Ahkello Witherspoon. That’s why the team needed so bas a new CB and the 33-year-old veteran can fill this gap.
Peterson built a reputation for ball-hawking during his 12-year career in the NFL. Always reading the quarterback, he can make plays, deflect passes and intercept balls while covering deep or short in the field. The Steelers are going to be his third team during his career. Before the Minnesota Vikings, he played 10 seasons for the Arizona Cardinals.
Known as one of the best cornerbacks of the league for a long time, Peterson debuted in the NFL back in 2011, after being selected as the no. 5 overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals. He made it to the Pro Bowl in every single one of his first eight seasons. In 2012 he had his best season with seven interceptions.
During his 12 seasons in the league, he played 184 games. During this time he has 610 tackles (537 solo +73 assisted), four sacks, two forced fumbles, three recovered fumbles and two touchdowns playing in the defense. During his rookie season, he also played as a kick returner and ended up returning four punts to the endzone.
