The Seattle Seahawks won’t need to hit the market to find themselves a new quarterback. That’s because the Seahawks are re-signing Geno Smith to stay for another three years. The new deal is worth $105 million and is a prize for the QB who led Seattle to the playoffs in the first season after the Russell Wilson era.

In the first year of the contract, Smith could earn $52 million, and the rest would be split in salary and bonuses over the next two years. The QB not only drove the Seahawks to the playoffs but also led the league in percentage completions, with 69.8%. He also earned himself the Comeback Player of the Year trophy and made the Pro Bowl.

With the agreement, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers can say goodbye to the possibility of bringing Geno Smith to be Tom Brady’s successor. The franchise was betting on reuniting the QB with his former coach in Seattle and now offensive coordinator in Tampa, Dave Canales.

Seahawks’ WR D.K. Metcalf spoke about his QB during the Super Bowl weekend. “He’s kept his mouth shut the past three years, played behind Russ. When they traded Russ, he didn’t skip a beat. He just took the keys to the offense and ran with it”, said the receiver about Smith’s conduct since joining the Seahawks.

Smith was drafted in 2013, with the overall 39th pick, in the second round. His first team on the NFL was the New York Jets, where he played for four seasons. In 2017, he stayed in New York, but changed the uniform, playing for one year with the Giants. Then another season with the Chargers, in Los Angeles, in 2018.

In 2019 he didn’t play a single game, despite the fact he was already a Seattle Seahawks player. His debut in Seattle was not until 2020 but he only played one game. After other four games in 2021, he played a whole season in 2022 for the first time since his rookie year.

So far in his 10-year career in the NFL, he has 62 games. He’s completed 991 passes out of 1,578 attempts and sums 11,199 yards, 64 touchdowns and 48 interceptions. Running with the ball he has 1,067 yards in 226 carries and other nine TDs. He has 12 fumbles in his career.
