The San Francisco 49ers lost in Week 6 to the Atlanta Falcons. Marcus Mariota had an efficient game as the Falcons improved to 3-3.


The San Francisco 49ers fell to 3-3 in Week 6. They went on the road and lost to the Atlanta Falcons in a game where 'cisco was favored by -5.5 points. With the victory, the Falcons improved to 3-3 as they try to get their teeth into the current season as playoff contenders.

Atlanta was a +5.5 underdog

For a betting recap, we had the Falcons' on their handicap. The margin of victory, however, was surprising as the Falcons posted a two-touchdown spread. With the handicap factored in, Atlanta had a 19-point cushion from a betting perspective.

Marcus Mariota had an interesting game for Atlanta. The Falcons' QB only threw for 129 yards in the game but he had no interceptions. Also, he connected for two touchdowns and barely lost a down to an incompletion. Mariota went 13 for 14 on the day and had an impressive passer rating of 144.6. Mariota also rushed for 50 yards while Caleb Huntley and Tyler Allgeier had 59 and 51 yards respectively.

San Francisco well over-rated?

The loss for San Francisco adds some mystique to their season. This is a team that's fashionable for a high spot in NFL power rankings. However, they have three really bad road losses when you look at the quality of the competition. The 49ers lost to Chicago, Denver, and now Atlanta in road games. Not one of those teams has a winning record following Week 6.

Next up for San Francisco is a home game against the Chiefs next Sunday. The Falcons will face the Cincinnati Bengals next week, a game the Bengals will host.
