Russell Wilson's injury and other NFL news - Oct. 20th, 2022

Recent NFL News for October 20th, 2022. Quarterbacks: who is in and who is out as Week 7 games near their starting times.

The big news in the NFL for Thursday, October 20th is that there is a game tonight. The New Orleans Saints, a banged-up team, will face the Arizona Cardinals in a battle of 2-4 teams. It sort of looks like Andy Dalton will be doing the quarterbacking for the Saints although the team has not made any official statement as of late Wednesday night. Here's a look at other recent news and headlines for the NFL today involving other teams.

Russell Wilson was limited on Wednesday

Russell Wilson was a limited participant in practice for the Denver Broncos on Wednesday. Wilson's injury is with his hamstring, according to the team's injury report that was published after Wednesday's practice. That leaves Wilson as questionable for Week 7 when the Denver Broncos will face the New York Jets.

Russell Wilson pulled up lame after the Monday night game in Week 6. The Broncos head coach, Nathaniel Hackett, stated that Wilson sustained a hamstring injury during the loss (Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reported).

Melvin Gordon's name also appeared on the injury report from October 19th. However, the Broncos listed the running back as a full participant in the practice.

Denver enters Week 7 with just a 2-4 record in the current season. They are coming off of a loss in Week 6 to the LA Chargers, a game where Denver played very poorly in front of a national audience.

Taylor Heinicke is back to starting for Washington

Taylor Heinicke is back in familiar territory. The backup quarterback for the Washington Commanders will start in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers. Heinicke was the team's regular starter last season after their QB1, Ryan Fitzpatrick, took an injury. This season, Carson Wentz is the injured one and that has given the backup a chance to prove himself again.

Aaron Rodgers did not practice on Wednesday

The Washington Commanders will face the Green Bay Packers in Week 7. The injury report for Green Bay has their QB1, Aaron Rodgers, listed on it. Rogers was a non-participant in practice on Wednesday because of a right thumb injury.

Dak Prescott active again for Dallas

Dak Prescott has not played since Week 1 when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 19-3. The Cowboys also lost in Week 6, however, they are 4-2 on the season and in the thick of things in their conference. Prescott was on the injury report for Dallas after Wednesday's practice. He was listed as a full participant on Wednesday, meaning that there is the full expectation that he will play in Week 7.

Robbie Anderson traded - Carolina in shambles

The Carolina Panthers continued their season of turmoil. They are now a 1-5 team after their Week 6 loss. Many are starting to view the team as the worst in the NFL, although some still consider the Houston Texans to be the worst team in the league.

Star running back Christian McCaffrey's name popped up in trade rumors back on Saturday. ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote an article about the matter. He made it pretty clear that the Panthers were just "listening" to offers. The balance of the article was that a trade involving the Panthers' RB lacked substance but, like with almost any player, Carolina was willing to listen. It will be interesting to see if this franchise, which has no direction right now, goes into a full-blown salary dump.

The Carolina Panthers are listening to other teams about a potential trade for star running back Christian McCaffrey, although a deal might not be easy to complete, league sources tell ESPN. The Panthers rebuffed at least two teams' inquiries into trading for McCaffrey last week and will continue to reject overtures they don't consider significant offers, according to sources.

The Panthers did execute a trade involving another player. Robbie Anderson was traded to the Arizona Cardinals on Monday. The trade came after Anderson was ejected from the sideline on Sunday by his own team.
