The NFL has just three games left: the conference finals will be played this weekend. Then, two weeks after that, the 2023 Super Bowl will be played. The date for the NFL championship is February 12th, 2023, from State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The belligerents will be the Cincinnati Bengals or the Kansas City Chiefs against either the San Francisco 49ers or the Philadelphia Eagles.
We took a look at the odds for the Super Bowl and the MVP futures not long ago. The main news heading into this weekend is the playing status of Patrick Mahomes.
Andy Reid, the coach of the KC Chiefs, indicated that it has yet to be determined if Mahomes will practice on Wednesday this week (Kevin Patra of NFL.com reported). Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Wednesday is when the injury report for next week’s game will come out. That’s when we’ll get our first official document on the matter.
Will Aaron Rodgers play again next season?
The Green Bay Packers failed to make the playoffs this year. Down the stretch of the regular season, they were a very tough team to beat, however, the Packers fell short in the final weekend. A lot has been made about whether or not Aaron Rodgers will play another season. He had a rocky season for health, his level of play dipped, and you have to think that matters will only get worse in the future.
Rob Demovsky, an ESPN Staff Writer, wrote on the topic on Tuesday. The article looked at the business aspect of Rodgers’ contract and whether it makes him a viable player for a team. Anyone that’s paying out nearly $60 million is going to want a playoff spot.
Rodgers has $59.465 million guaranteed if he plays in 2023, as part of the three-year, $150 million contract extension he signed last March. It carries a salary-cap charge of $31,623,570 for next season.
NFL.com Power Rankings: Conference Finals
NFL.com is still offering power rankings at this point. These kinds of rankings are usually handy for fans when there are a ton of teams to consider and a ton of games. With just four teams remaining and three games, there isn’t actually a lot to sort out at this point. NFL.com listed the Cincinnati Bengals as the top team of the four remaining teams. Philadelphia, San Francisco, and KC followed.
