The Kansas City Chiefs hosted Thursday night football to start Week 2. Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers were in KC.

Kansas City Chiefs 27, Los Angeles Chargers 24

The Chiefs were -3.5 early in the week so the oddsmakers had this one pegged as KC posted a three-point win. KC overcame a 10-point deficit in the game as Justin Herbert came out throwing the ball well. One of the key plays in the game, however, was an interception that the Chargers' QB threw.

With the score tied at 17 early in the fourth quarter, the Chargers looked as though they were going to score. However, Herbert threw an interception to Jaylen Watson. Watson returned the pick 99 yards for a touchdown.

Top Performers in the Game

With three touchdown passes, the costly interception ruined what appeared to be an MVP-like performance as he played on the road against one of the top teams in the league. Despite the pick-6, Herbert still threw for 334 yards. Some of them came on a final drive where he appeared to be struggling with something physical.

Patrick Mahomes threw for 235 yards on 24 for 35 passing in the game. He only had two touchdowns but he kept the sheet clean for interceptions. This rating of 106.2 was slightly better than Herbert's as the Chiefs improved to 2-0.

The top rusher in the game was KC's Clyde Edwards-Helaire. He finished with 74 yards in the contest, the bulk of which came on a 52-yard scamper late in the game that set up what would be the game-winning field goal.

The top receiver in the game was LA's Mike Williams. He caught 8 passes on 11 targets for 113 yards in the contest. He also had one of the touchdown catches that Herbert threw. The leader for KC was Travis Kelce, however, the talented tight end had a fairly quiet game as he caught for just 51 yards.

Next up for both teams

The Chiefs will go on the road to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3. Meanwhile, the LA Chargers will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in their Week 3 match-up.
