The New England Patriots are signing QB Trace McSorley out of the Free Agency market. He is landing in New England to join Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe in the quarterback depth chart but most likely will not compete to be the team’s starter. In fact, none of those three seem to be Bill Belichick’s choice.

As we brought here at the beginning of the month, the New England Patriots are shopping Mac Jones. They (this includes the head coach) reportedly don’t feel he is the future of the franchise. But make no mistake, McSorley is also not the future. He is arriving in New England to compete for the backup role.

So far, Bill Belichick refused to name Mac Jones as the starter for 2023. Bailey Zappe is also in the fight for the position. And, of course, there is also the possibility they draft or sign with another quarterback until the beginning of the season.

Since Tom Brady left the Patriots after the 2019 season, New England is struggling to find their next QB. Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer, Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe and even WR Julian Edelman played as quarterback at some point in the last three seasons. Now they are adding another QB to the roster.

Trace McSorley

Speaking of the 2019 season, this was the first year the quarterback was in the NFL. McSorley was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round with the 197th overall pick, in the sixth round, out of Penn State University.

He is going to his fifth season in the NFL and the Patriots are going to be his third team as he also played for the Arizona Cardinals last season. Always been a backup, he has terrible stats so far. In nine games played, he records 48 completions in 93 attempts (51.6%), 502 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions.
