New England have being punished by the NFL for violating offseason rules, which have not been disclosed

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the New England Patriots are losing two OTAs days, out of their 10, for violating the offseason rules. The exact nature of those violations was not revealed. This represents a cut of 20% on the Patriots’ Organized Team Activities.

As we brought here this week, the OTAs are optional activities. The New England Patriots had scheduled 10 this offseason, but with the punishment they have lost two. The one from today, May 25, and the one from May 30. The team is going to resume their offseason schedule next Wednesday.

Last season, the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears were also penalized for OTAs rules violations. Live contact is not permitted during the OTAs. Only 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills are allowed, but again, no tackles.

According to most recent updates, a source from the NFL Players Association, the violation was not related to in-field problems such as contacts. This source believes that the Patriots made an optional special teams meeting to be listed as mandatory on the formal schedule, which would be a problem.

The 6x Super Bowl champion franchise will continue its offseason with the OTAs next week. After that, they will have the three-day mandatory minicamp starting on June 12. Then, after the training camp, they will have the following games schedule.
