Panthers signing Adam Thielen

After being released by the Minnesota Vikings, the wide receiver has a new home for his 11th season

The Carolina Panthers are signing WR Adam Thielen. After being released by the Minnesota Vikings earlier in March, the 32-year-old wide receiver is another veteran joining the Panthers offense. He is signing a three-year deal with the second team of his 11-season career in the NFL.

Thielen is the ninth signing of the Carolina Panthers this offseason. Among the signings, QB Andy Dalton, RB Miles Sanders, TE Hayden Hurst and S Vonn Bell are the most impactful alongside WR Adam Thielen. They also lost some important players such as D.J. Moore, P.J. Walker and D’onta Foreman.

With the move, the Panthers are making a clear statement: they are going for a QB in the draft. After trading away their main WR with the Bears for no. 1 overall pick, Thielen is a perfect fit to fill the vacancy in the roster. Andy Dalton will probably be the backup QB, while Miles Sanders will probably be RB1 after D’onta Foreman left the team and also signed with the Bears.

Adam Thielen

His NFL career started as a bet from the Vikings. He only played NCAA division II and had to climb all the way up to the 53-man roster. His first year was on the practice squad. Then, special teams. And nine years later he’s been one of the best and most reliable catchers in the league.

Thielen’s best season was, by far, in 2018. He set his personal record of 113 catches throughout the season, with 1,373 yards (also a career-high) and nine touchdowns. His season with the most TDs was in 2020, with 14.

During his 10 years in NFL Thielen has played 135 games. He has 534 receptions, 6,682 yards and 55 touchdowns. Also, running with the ball, he has 21 carries for 172 yards and one TD.
