Are the Washington Commanders tampering with former Colts QB Andrew Luck? According to Indianapolis Colts owner, Jim Irsay, yes. ESPN reported on the weekend that the Commanders attempted to find out if Luck would consider a comeback. And Irsay made a clear statement on his Twitter account after that.

“If any NFL Team attempted to contact Andrew Luck (or any associate of him)… to play for their Franchise – it would be a clear Violation of the League’s Tampering Policy,” he wrote, right after the reports from ESPN were made public.

Andrew Luck retired from the NFL in 2019, before the beginning of the season, at age 29. He had three years left on his contract with the Indianapolis Colts. At the time of his announcement, the NFL world was shocked by the decision. But consecutive injuries made the former QB take the decision to stop.

Irsay, at the time of Luck’s retirement, allowed him to keep the full bonus of the contract signed, instead of getting back a proportional amount from the QB. The bonuses added to $24.8 million. Now Irsay wants to make sure that, if Luck decides to come back, the Colts are not left behind.

According to the Colts owner, any team wanting to lure Andre Luck back to the field should negotiate a trade with Indy first. Some fans disagree and say that his contract expired in 2022 and therefore he would now be a free agent. The fact is Andrew Luck has shown no sign of interest in making a comeback.
