The Buffalo Bills were our top-ranked team in our NFL Power Rankings. However, they took their second loss of the season on Sunday of Week 9.
The Buffalo Bills lost their second game of the season in Week 9. The Bills were up against the New York Jets and lost a close game, 20-17.
With the result, the Bills fell to 6-2 on the season and will presumingly fall in the various NFL Power Rankings for Week 10. In our own power rankings, Buffalo had been the long-standing No. 1 team. When Week 9 is over in its entirety, we will update our Top Ten with, presumptively, the Philadelphia Eagles taking over the top spot.
According to our archives, the Buffalo Bills were Super Bowl favorites heading into Week 9 with bet365 sportsbook. They were +250 (5/2) to win the championship when we noted the odds several days ago. With the loss, the Bills drifted a little bit but still remain the Super Bowl favorites as of late Sunday. They are +280 (14/5) with the same sportsbook.
Josh Allen did not have a good game in Week 9. He did not connect for a single touchdown pass and barely threw over 200 yards. Furthermore, he had two interceptions and the Jets sacked Allen five times in the game. Zach Wilson had a much better passing game with 1 touchdown pass, no interceptions, and 154 yards.
The result was an important one for the New York Jets. When they lost Breece Hall and then fell to 5-3 last week, it looked like the Jets could be discounted going into Week 9. However, the victory improved them to 6-3 on the season and they have all to play for as they target a playoff spot this season. The decent record and the win over the Bills should propel the Jets into the top ten of nearly all NFL Power Rankings publications.
The Jets integrated James Robinson into their offense in Week 9. They traded for the running back a couple of weeks ago after losing Hall but Robinson did not see much action last week. On Sunday, he had 48 yards on 13 plays. Michael Carter was the team’s leading rusher with 76 yards.
Looking at the standings in the AFC East, the Bills are now uncomfortable leaders. They have a game edge over both Miami and the Jets, however, those two teams hold wins over the Bills. Also, the New England Patriots are 5-4 and cannot be discounted from the division following their win on Sunday.
Next week, the Bills have a very tough game. They will face the Minnesota Vikings, a team that is 7-1 on the season. The Jets will head into their bye week and will face the New England Patriots on November 20th.
