The San Francisco 49ers took an injury to their starting quarterback early in their Week 13 game. Jimmy Garoppolo broke his foot and he exited San Francisco’s game against the Miami Dolphins early. He will be out for the remainder of the season, the second 49ers QB to go out for the season this season.

Brock Purdy, San Francisco’s third-string quarterback, came in in relief against the Dolphis and he led the team to an important victory, 33-17. The result sees San Francisco improve to 8-4 and they remain on top of the NFC West. However, it’s not clear how competitive the team can be with Purdy at the helm, presumably for the balance of the season.

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami’s starting quarterback, did not have a great game against the 49ers. He finished just 18 for 33 on passing for the day but managed to get close to 300 yards thanks to some long connections. But Tagovailoa had two INTs in the game and he also turned the ball over late in the fourth quarter, perhaps with the game already at hand. The result saw Miami fall to 8-4 on the season and they will surrender the lead in the AFC East to the Buffalo Bills.

Kansas City loses to the Cincinnati Bengals

In another big game involving top teams, the KC Chiefs lost on Sunday, falling to the Cincinnati Bengals 27-24. The result sees the Chiefs fall to a record of 9-3 on the season but they remain unthreatened in the AFC East. Their main rival, the LA Chargers, also lost and remain deep in the standings at just 6-6.

Meanwhile, the Bengals have to be thinking about winning their own division, the AFC North. They are 8-4 and stayed in pace with the 8-4 Baltimore Ravens. The two teams are scheduled to meet in the final game of the regular season, one that could have big implications for the AFC playoff picture.
