Wizards vs Hornets Recap: NBA February 8th, 2023

The Washington Wizards, one of the many bubble teams in the NBA’s playoff picture, hosted the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. The Wizards won the game in a contest that was not close as time expired. They put up a double-digit margin of victory in the game, winning by 14 points. The final score was Charlotte 104, and Washington 118 as the Hornets continue to struggle on the court.

With the loss, the Hornets are now 15-41 overall on the season. We had a look at them for win totals just last night and felt that they would win UNDER 26.5 games this season. It’s continuing to look that way as they failed to stay within single digits of Washington.

The Hornets have just eight wins in their last 34 games, many of which have been played with LaMelo Ball in the lineup. When he was injured, the thinking was that Charlotte’s fortunes would improve with his return, however, they haven’t really done that.

Meanwhile, the Wizards improved to 25-29 with the 14-point victory. This is a team that has some streakiness to it. The victory ended a three-game skid but Washington remains four games under .500. That said, this was a team that was nine games under .500 just before Christmas so they are heading in the right direction when you look at some longer-termed trends.

The top scorer in the game was Kristaps Porzingis. He had an impressive 36 points in the contest while Delon Wright, Bradley Beal, and Deni Avdija all had double-doubles in the game. Kyle Kuzma (pictured) did not play in the game.
