The OKC Thunder, a team that has struggled to stay close to .500 lately, hosted the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night. The Thunder, despite missing their best player, won the game in a contest that was a total one-sided blowout.

They put up a large double-digit margin of victory in the uncompetitive affair, winning by 33 points. The final score was Boston 117, and OKC 150 — a truly shocking result in the NBA for this point in the season.

With the loss, the Celtics are now 26-12 overall on the season. They have played some of their worst basketball in recent weeks. Their fans will remember perplexing home losses to the Orlando Magic in December. Now, the Celtics add a 33-point loss to the OKC Thunder, even though the Thunder were without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (pictured) for the evening.

There definitely seems to be something amiss with Boston — but it’s not clear what that problem is quite yet. Regardless, they are a team that has been dropping down week after week in our NBA Power Rankings.

Currently, they are in 5th place but a loss to OKC by that kind of margin may lead to a further drop when we update the rankings on Sunday night. Boston’s struggles are definitely to the benefit of the Brooklyn Nets, a team that has won twelve straight games are now only 0.5 games behind the Cs.

Boston Celtics: #5 Ranked Team at a Glance

  • Overall record: 26-12
  • Home record: 15-5
  • Away record: 11-7
  • Winning/losing streak: L2
  • Last ten games: 5-5

Meanwhile, the Thunder improved to 16-21 with the 33-point victory. They will be happy with the victory but still have a lot of work to get into contention in the Western Conference. OKC will head out on the road on Wednesday when they travel to face the Orlando Magic.
