The Golden State Warriors is the American pro-NBA team that is based in San Francisco, California. These Warriors are currently members of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association, playing alongside the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings. The team was originally founded back in 1946 and was based in Philadelphia. However, in 1962, the team upped and moved over to the San Francisco Bay and rebranded to the city’s name, before changing their moniker again in 1971 to the Golden State Warriors. They play their home games at the Chase Center.
The team was successful right from its beginning and won the much-lauded Basketball Association of America (BAA) in 1947. They repeated this feat again in 1956, helped by their Hall of Fame trio Neil Johnston, Tom Gola and Paul Arizin.
Their form, since, has been up and down. After trading their star player, Wilt Chamberlain in 1965, the team finished that season with the NBA’s worst record – 17 wins and 63 losses. This led to a big rebuild, drafting the likes of Rick Barry. In 1975 this proved to be successful as Barry, alongside Jammal Wilkes, helped the team to their third Championship win – one of the biggest shocks and upsets in the history of the NBA.
In recent years, the Golden State Warriors have been inconsistent, with the team missing the playoffs in 2020 for the second year in a row. This is again a time for the team to knuckle down and start creating a team that can compete with the Lakers and Suns once again.
Fun Fact
Not so much a fun fact – but an interesting one… Golden State Warriors player, Kevin Durant, always wears a number 35 jersey in honor of his very first basketball coach, Charles Craig. Tragically, Craig was murdered at the young age of 35 and Durant wears this jersey to commemorate the contributions he made to his NBA career.
2021 Draft Outlook – G League Selection
After having had some excellent performances, with five consecutive NBA Final appearances – and three titles, things went drastically wrong in 2019, with the team finishing last in the Western Conference. However, they improved greatly in the last season – finishing 8th, getting a record of 39-33 and getting a place in the play-in tournament.
However, this was soon ended after losing out to the Lakers in their first play-in game and then losing to the Grizzlies in their second play-in game, which officially ended their season. They still have some pretty decent players to take into the upcoming season, including Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Stephen Curry. However, Thompson has been carrying injuries since 2019 which could affect his next season.
However, these big star players are all over thirty – which means that they will be looking to add some young blood to their upcoming roster. Their 2021 draft will certainly help them!
The Golden State Warriors NBA Records
The Golden State Warriors, despite having some questionable seasons and results, hold a number of NBA records, which includes the Best Regular Season, Most wins in a season (regular season and post-season results combined) and also the best post season run. In addition to this, it is a common belief that Thompson and Curry are the greatest backcourts of all time.
As well as this, the team is tied with Chicago Bulls for having won the third most NBA Championships and also have the third most appearances in the finals. Finally, the team is the third most valuable franchise in the NBA and the fifth-highest sports franchise across the world.
Moving Forward as a Team
In the NBA draft lottery picks, 2021, the Warriors managed to get 7th pick from the D’Angelo Russell trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves alongside their own 14th pick. The 7th pick same them selecting Jonathan Kuminga, the NBA G-League Ignite forward. He was joined in the 14th pick by the Point Guard from Arkansas college basketball, Moses Moody. Kuminga is considered to be more like a development project, so the well-established Moody will likely see more playing time in the 2021-22 season.
They then re-signed Curry on a four-year extension deal, valued at $215 million. In addition, they acquired Otto Porter Jr, the Magic Forward as well as Nemanja Bjelica from Mian Heat on one year deals. In August, Andre Iguodala signed a contract to come back to the area.

No. As it stands, the Washington Wizards traded for Russell Westbrook prior to the 2020-21 season, with the hope that he might help them reach the playoffs with Bradley Beal, which he managed. Who is the Best Player for the Golden State Warriors?
Arguably, Steph Curry is the best three-point shooter – not just for now, but of all time. He is a basketball player that proved to the world that coming from a mid-mahor D1 college programme won’t hold you back when it comes to NBA success. In 2009, he came out of Davidson – with many top NBA scouts who had questions about whether he would actually be a decent addition to the league. His career started with many doubters. He also suffered from a number of ankle injuries at the start of his career.
However, he eventually overcame this to carve out an incredible NBA career. This includes four NBA All-Star selections. On top of this, he set the NBA record for the most three-pointers made in a season. He did this four times – in the four consecutive seasons between 2012 and 2016. He is also a player who has helped his team to their best regular season NBA record in history – 73 wins versus 9 losses.
In addition, he helped them win their first NBA Championships since 1975. Steph Curry is not only famous for his exceptional shooting skills, but also has excellent passing skills and ball-handling skills.
