Nuggets vs Mavericks recap for Wednesday, February 15th, 2023. The Mavericks (now 31-29 this season) lost to the Nuggets, who are now 41-18.
The Denver Nuggets hosted the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, a game that would be the Nuggets’ last before the All-Star break. Dallas entered the game without Kyrie Irving due to a back problem (tightness).
The Nuggets, who are exceptionally tough to beat at home, won the game in a contest that was somewhat close as time expired. Denver managed a single-digit margin of victory in the game, winning by 9 points. The final score was Dallas 109, and Denver 118 as the Nuggets improved their elite home record to 27-4. They entered this week as the 5th-ranked team in our NBA Power Rankings and stand to improve as we head into the All-Star break.
With the loss, the Mavericks are now 31-29 overall on the season. The top scorer in the game was Luka Doncic. He had an impressive 37 points in the contest but there wasn’t much of a second punch offensively. In a lot of games, Spencer Dinwiddie would have been the second scorer for Dallas but he’s in Brooklyn now. With Irving missing the game, the Mavericks did not have a whole lot to work with.
Dallas remains a bit of a question mark heading into the All-Star break. Assuming that the back problem with Irving is a minor one, then the break comes at a really good time for the team as it will give him a chance to recover. Dallas may also need to regroup as they’ve now lost three straight games and are a little worse off now than they were before the trade for Irving.
