NFL Week 14 results from the early action on Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys survived a scare but prevailed over the Houston Texans.
The San Francisco 49ers won their Week 14 game but there was reason to be concerned about the team. Both Brock Purdy and Deebo Samuel were on the injury watch for the team on Monday. Samuel is thought to be likely to miss some time but is expected back in the regular season. Meanwhile, Purdy has a day-to-day injury. ESPN reported on the injuries on Monday afternoon, December 12th.
According to the team, Samuel suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee and a sprained left ankle. He will miss some time but there were no broken bones and he is “expected to return at some point during the regular season.”
As for Purdy, he’s considered day-to-day with what the team is calling a rib and oblique injury. While the Niners did not practice Monday, they had to release an estimated injury report because they play Thursday night.

The 49ers will be playing in the Thursday night game in Week 15. This is a bad week for them to be dealing with even just short-term injuries. San Francisco will face the Seattle Seahawks, in a game that Seattle will host. Early-week odds still favor the 49ers at -3.5 with bet365 but Purdy, the team’s third-string quarterback, is questionable for the game. Since it’s a short week, you have to wonder if he is more to the “doubtful” side of questionable, even if the latter is his official status.
The Dallas Cowboys entered their Week 14 Sunday game as -17.5 favorites against the Houston Texans. The Cowboys, who needed a late fourth-quarter touchdown to secure victory on Sunday, faced a major scare from the 1-10-1 Texans. Davis Mills threw a deep interception to end Houston’s final drive and Dallas, now 10-3 on the season, prevailed at home with a 27-23 victory.
The Texans, conversely, are now a league-worst 1-11-1 on the season. They are a team to be watched for ‘subplots’ for the balance of the season. Will they finish last? Will Davis Mills lead the NFL in INTs? Will they act as a spoiler for someone?
For Dallas, they are definitely a Super Bowl contender and the result allowed the Cowboys to keep pace with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles had no troubles with the New York Giants, winning that game 48-22 to improve to 12-1 overall.
The Miami Dolphins had a terrible two-week swing through California. The Dolphins lost in Week 13 to the San Francisco 49ers. Miami followed that up with a loss on Sunday night in Week 14 to the LA Chargers. The final score in this latter game was LA 23, Miami 17.
Tua Tagovailoa just has not been himself the last couple of weeks. He had two INTs against San Francisco in Week 13. In Week 14, he kept the sheet clean of interceptions but barely had any completions, going just 10 for 28 on the game for passing. Miami isn’t quite uncomfortable in the AFC standings as the 6th-place team. However, they’ll have to post some wins if they are going to make the playoffs with all of Tennessee, New England, the New York Jets, and the LA Chargers trying to overtake the Dolphins and each other in the standings.
In other action, the Baltimore Ravens managed to win their Week 14 game. The Ravens, who were playing without Lamar Jackson this week, were up against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers themselves suffered a quarterback setback when Kenny Pickett had to leave the Week 14 game early. Mitch Trubisky, the team’s QB1 out of training camp this season, came into the game, however, the Ravens prevailed 16-14.
The result improved Baltimore to 9-4 on the season. That’s the same record that the Cincinnati Bengals have following their Week 14 game. The two teams are neck-and-neck in the AFC North standings. The division may yet come down to a head-to-head battle in the final week of the season.
The Detroit Lions continued their efforts to try and scrap their way into the playoff picture. The Lions have barely a loss to show for their efforts over the last several weeks with just a three-point setback against Buffalo from a couple of weeks ago. On Sunday, Detroit handed Minnesota their third loss of the season, beating the Vikings 34-23.
The Lions improved to 6-7 on the season and would have liked some of the scores from around the NFL on early Sunday. In particular, the Lions would be happy to see that the Giants lost. The Lions will also have an eye on the scoreboard involving the Seattle Seahawks, a team that’s active in Sunday’s middle set.
