Nets vs Spurs recap for Monday, Jan. 2/23. The Spurs (now 12-25 this season) lost to the Nets, who are now 25-12.
The Brooklyn Nets, the top-ranked team in our NBA power rankings, hosted the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. The Nets, true to their recent form, won the game in a contest that was a total one-sided blowout. They put up a large double-digit margin of victory in the uncompetitive affair, winning by 36 points. The final score was San Antonio 103, and Brooklyn 139.
With the loss, the Spurs are now 12-25 overall on the season. They are 5-12 away from home and hit a bit of a stumbling block despite not playing that badly over the last few weeks. The Spurs were 6-18 about a month ago but have been much more respectable over the last four weeks. The Nets were clearly in over their heads against the Nets but have easier teams coming up in New York and Detroit.
Meanwhile, the Nets improved to 25-12 with the 36-point victory. The top scorer in the game was Kyrie Irving. He had a very good 27 points in the contest in just 25 minutes. The Nets handled their minutes well in the game, with no Brooklyn starter playing more than 29 minutes. They look like they should be set up well to have a successful three-game road trip for the balance of the week. Currently, they have won twelve straight games with Chicago, New Orleans, and Miami coming up as opponents.
