Check out what happened during Friday, Saturday and Sunday games in the greatest basketball league in the world
The NBA doesn’t stop and this weekend was one more (or one less) in the regular season. And we had a few playoff implications during the games. The Boston Celtics clinched a playoff berth while the Charlotte Hornets got officially eliminated from contention as they lost their 50th game in the season. It’s time for the NBA Weekend Recap.
Starting off our NBA Weekend Recap we have the Boston Celtics. They played twice this weekend, winning one and losing the other. On Friday (17) they beat the Portland Trail Blazers by 126-112, and on Saturday (18) they lost 118-117 to the Utah Jazz. With these results, they fell on the table to third place but clinched a playoff spot.
On Friday we had Jayson Tatum playing really well once again in this regular season as he scored 34 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Al Horford also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. But Damian Lillard, with 41 points, was the game’s top scorer, but he couldn’t avoid Blazers’ loss.
During Saturday’s loss, the Utah Jazz not just won but also had the best individual performances. Lauri Markkanen (28 PTS/10 REB), Kelly Olynyk (13 PTS/13 REB) and Walker Kessler (12 PTS/14 REB) had a double-double each. Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown was the Celtics’ top scorer with 25 points, but it wasn’t enough.
Now it’s time to talk about the conference leaders. Starting with the East, the Milwaukee Bucks played only once this weekend. On Sunday (19) they beat the Toronto Raptors 118-111 and remained at the top of the table. Brook Lopez was the top scorer with 26 points, while Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a triple-double, with 22 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
Speaking now of West’s leaders, the Denver Nuggets played twice this weekend. On Saturday they started losing 116-110 to the New York Knicks. Nikola Jokić had a double-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Jamal Murray was the game’s top scorer with 25 points but still lost.
After that, they recovered with a win against the Brooklyn Nets, by 108-102. This time Nikola Jokić got his triple-double with 22 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists, while Michael Porter Jr. scored 28 points. The Nuggets are already in the playoffs and have 10 games left in the regular season.
