The Brooklyn Nets have hardly been a model of consistency this season. They are 8-9 following a win on Sunday over the Memphis Grizzlies. Brooklyn defeated Memphis 127-115 in a game that saw the return of Kyrie Irving to action.
Irving started the game and played 26 minutes. He had 14 points and 5 rebounds, but no assists in the contest. He was 5 for 12 on shooting and 2 for 5 from three-point range. Kevin Durant was the team’s high scorer with 26 points. He also had 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
Meanwhile, Ben Simmons looks like he is continuing to return to form. In 35 minutes, he had 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. He also had a game-high +19 for point differential and his shooting was razor-sharp at 11 for 13. If his recent play is a sign of things to come, then Brooklyn will be very dangerous so long as their starting lineup stays healthy.
Other results on Sunday: Denver wins
The Denver Nuggets were on the road on Sunday. They were playing without Nikola Jokic in a game at Dallas. However, Denver managed to get a victory, defeating Dallas 98-97 in a game where Luka Doncic missed a buzzer-beater.
DeAndre Jordan logged big minutes for the Nuggets in the game in place of Jokic. Jordan looked like his old self in the contest, grabbing 17 rebounds for what is a season-high for that category for him.
The Mavericks continue to play like a sluggish team. They have the betting favorite for the MVP in Doncic (bet365), however, at just 9-7 on the season they are not among the league’s elite from a team perspective. Certainly, most would have had them defeating the Nuggets on a night where Denver’s best player was out of the lineup.
Other results from Sunday saw the Cleveland Cavaliers demolish an injury-riddled Miami team. The Washington Wizards defeated the Charlotte Hornets 106-102. Also, the New York Knicks lost to Phoenix 116-95.
