No Ja’Marr Chase? No problem for the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9. The Bengals had a tough go last week without their top wide receiver. However, they revamped their offense this week, stressed a rushing attack, and it resulted in a five-touchdown performance for running back Joe Mixon.

Mixon’s career game

Mixon had a total of 153 yards on the ground in Week 9’s victory over the Carolina Panthers. He also had four rushing touchdowns in the game. For receptions, Mixon was 4 for 5 on his targets and received for a touchdown among his 58 yards. The result was a career day for Mixon and a record-breaking performance for the Cincinnati franchise. The Bengals also took away a 42-21 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

The Cincinnati Bengals improved to 5-4 on the season. They sit second in the AFC North with division-leading Baltimore still playing on Monday night. The Panthers dropped to just 2-7 on the season but there was some news to take away from the game.

PJ Walker started the game just 3 for 10 with two INTs. The Panthers went back to Baker Mayfield in the game, their original starting QB when the season began. Mayfield played well in substitution. He connected for two touchdowns, he had no INTs, and Mayfield posted a passer rating of 126.0. Although he did not play the whole game, that passer rating would be the best rating of his season to date.

What’s next for both teams?

Next up for the Cincinnati Bengals is their bye week before they face the Pittsburgh Steelers later this month. Next up for the Panthers is a short week for rest. They will play on Thursday night this week as hosts of the Atlanta Falcons.
