The Golden State Warriors, the defending NBA champions, have a win total of just 43.5 at the 2023 All-Star break (bet365). You have to wonder if this year marks the end of the franchise’s golden years. Steph Curry is injured, they don’t have a ton of depth, and their big flaw this season is an inability to win on the road. They are also a little off of the pace that they need at the season’s end in order to beat their win total.
The team’s depth chart has a couple of problems in the starting lineup. Steph Curry is expected to miss 3-4 games after the All-Star break (Kendra Andrews of ESPN.com reported) with his lower leg injury. Andrew Wiggins is day-to-day, implying that he will be fine after the All-Star break.
Overall, you have to think that the Warriors, who did a minor roster move recently, will benefit from the break more than most teams. They have a starting lineup that’s old by NBA standards. In addition to Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are both on the edge of their prime, if not a little past it. When Curry comes back, you might expect a rejuvenated team, at least for a little while. In the big picture, the Warriors have been a 50/50 team almost all season.
Can they get to 44 wins to beat their win total? They would need to go 15-9 in their remaining 24 games in order to do that. That looks like a really tough record for this team to achieve. Golden State resumes its season on the 23rd when they will be in LA to take on the Lakers.
