Celtics vs Grizzlies recap for Sunday, February 12th, 2023. The Grizzlies (now 34-22 this season) lost to the Celtics, who are now 41-16.
The Boston Celtics, in one of only two games that will be played in the NBA on Super Bowl Sunday, hosted the Memphis Grizzlies. The Celtics won the game in a contest that was not close. They put up a double-digit spread in the game, winning by 10 points against a Memphis team that has been reeling for the last few weeks. The final score was Memphis 109, and Boston 119 as the Celtics continue to play well from home.
With the loss, the Grizzlies are now 34-22 overall on the season. On the road, in particular, they are just 11-17.
The top scorer in the game was Ja Morant, who had 25 points, but you have to wonder to what extent the Grizzlies are missing their starting center, Steven Adams. Memphis continues to struggle overall as this team has played just .250 basketball for about 3-4 weeks as per the bullet points below.
They continue to look like a team that might be overrated in a lot of their games in the near future. You have to think that Memphis, more than most teams, is looking forward to the All-Star break as an opportunity to regroup. They have one more game, on Wednesday, before they will get eight days off.
Meanwhile, the Celtics improved to 41-16 with the 10-point victory. They enjoyed a perfect week this week and appear to be heading toward the No. 2 ranking when we update our NBA Power Rankings later tonight. The Celtics were down two regular starters in their game against Memphis but all of their available starters and three of their bench players hit double-digits in scoring in a game that showcased Boston’s depth.
Boston has two more games before the All-Star break. On Tuesday, they will have a showdown with Milwaukee before facing Detroit on Wednesday. Chances are that Boston will go 1-1 in the games ahead.
