Celtics vs 76ers recap for Wednesday, February 8th, 2023. The 76ers (now 34-19 this season) lost to the Celtics, who are now 39-16.
The Boston Celtics, the top team in the NBA standings, hosted the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday. The game featured two of the strongest teams in the NBA.
The Celtics, behind 19 points from Derrick White, won the game in a contest that was fairly close as time expired. They put up a single-digit margin of victory in the game, winning by 7 points. The final score was Philadelphia 99, and Boston 106 as the Celtics claimed a key divisional victory.
With the loss, the 76ers are now 34-19 overall on the season. The top scorer in the game was Joel Embiid. He had a very good 28 points in the contest but Philadelphia did not receive much scoring off of the bench. No bench player hit double digits for scoring in a game where Philadelphia had a low-scoring total.
The 76ers entered this week as the second-ranked team in our Top Ten NBA Power Rankings. However, they just took their second loss of the week and that means they will likely be heading downward when we update on Sunday night/Monday morning. Philadelphia will look to turn its fortunes around at home on the 10th when they host the Knicks.
Meanwhile, the Celtics improved to 39-16 with the 7-point victory. The victory was a meaningful one as it extended Boston’s lead in the Atlantic Division to four games. That is a large lead at this point in the season. If Boston gets hot, then it will be really tough for Philadelphia to overcome that gap. Boston was our No. 3 team to open the week, however, there’s a good chance that the teams will change positions.
