The Brooklyn Nets are losing one of their best players with a back injury; he is out even of the playoffs
The Brooklyn Nets season was crazy. In the first half of the year, they led the Eastern Conference for a while. However, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving left on the trade deadline day. After their departure, the team fell, as expected. Then, Ben Simmons appeared as one of the new teams’ best players but now he is out for the remainder of the season. And somehow they are still almost in the playoffs.
Simmons was diagnosed with a nerve injury in his back. After seeing multiple specialists this week, they determined that the best option for the player was to end his season to treat it. This is the second season that he misses because of a back problem. He had surgery to repair the problem during the offseason but a sore left knee made his season difficult again.
After 42 games played for the Nets, he will have to wait until the next season and treat his back better before coming back. He is finishing this season averaging 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists.
The player was the no. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft, by the Philadelphia 76ers. He spent all of his first years in the league playing for the Sixers. During this period he even spent a year away from the courts due to mental issues. He joined the Brooklyn Nets in the middle of the current season, on the deadline day.
He has a total of 317 games played so far in the league, with a total of 4,673 points, 2,480 rebounds and 2,383 assists. This means an average of 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game so far. He hasn’t played a game this season since the All-Star Weekend, in February, dealing with his knee and back. Speaking of All-Star, he’s made it to the All-Star Game three times in his career (2019, 2020 and 2021).
