The Gambling Commission’s annual report has finally come out and brought out the problem of skin betting among children as young as 11 years old. Skin betting is a form of gambling and ‘esports betting’ on match outcomes in esports. With a huge chunk of the money invested into esports by the regular player being a part of this skin betting, we are slowly witnessing a social phenomenon.
In recent months many favorite esports betting websites have committed to a regulator like ESIC or a gambling commission.
Skin betting often results in untoward results on part of the young children whose minds are moulded according to these outcomes.
The report found that:
- 45% of 11-16 year-olds were aware of “skin betting“
- 11% of 11-16 year-olds had placed bets using in-game items
- 59% of boys knew about the activity compared with 31% of girls
This article was first reported on BBC.com and features different problems with having children betting via skins.
