OpTic announces that it does not have future plans for Dota2 right now
Yesterday, OpTic’s Chief Gaming Director Maelk posted on Reddit in an AMA thread regarding the future of OpTic Gaming in the Dota2 and Call of Duty scenes.
In regards to Dota 2 and a roster for the 2018/2019 season, I am afraid I have some disappointing news. We do currently not have any players signed, nor do we expect to for the foreseeable future. Since the conclusion of The International we have been working hard towards ensuring a roster that could do us all proud. Ultimately it came down to our vision for what it is we want to achieve. Do we want to be in Dota 2 no matter the team? No. We want a team that can win. And we want a team that can be as actively a part of the Greenwall as the fanbase itself. We want a team that we can identify with.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that OpTic Gaming would be disbanding its Dota2 division, following an unsatisfying series of tournaments. OpTic Gaming last competed in The International 2018, where they were eliminated by Virtus.pro and ended up in the 7-8th bracket. Despite winning over $630,000 from that tournament, a week later the team would disband.
Judging by the message posted above, the organization is not too eager to rush the formation of a new roster. Maelk also mentions in the same thread that the organization has been talking with certain players, but the two parties have not been able to reach a consensus.
TYLOO invited to TOYOTA Master Bangkok 2018 tournament
In other news, Chinese CS:GO team TYLOO has just received an invite to the TOYOTA Master Bangkok 2018 event, set to take place in November. TYLOO has had a strong run in the past, winning multiple tournaments against top-tier teams. Currently, it is competing in the FACEIT 2018 Major, reaching the New Legends stage.
Apart from TYLOO, Renegades is the only other team to be invited to the TOYOTA event. Eight other teams will also play in November, two of which will also be invited. The exact participants will be decided following a series of Qualifier tournaments which will take place over the next two months. The event will feature a $100,000 prize pool and will be hosted in the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok, Thailand. TOYOTA Master Bangkok 2018 will begin on 21 November and will play through 25 November.
