An exciting new tournament called Candy Crush All-Stars U.S. will feature a series of high-stakes Candy Crush Saga matches between the best Candy Crush players in the country. If you’ve played Candy Crush Saga, you’ll find this strange. After all, it’s a laid-back match-3 game favoured by working moms and train passengers. Some players, on the other hand, are obsessive about the game and will go to great lengths to become the ultimate Candy Crush champion.
Reality TV star Khloé Kardashian will serve as host and commentator for the tournament. To be honest, I’m hoping for things like traditional sports broadcasting desks, real-time replay, and other esports luxuries that showcase every aspect of top-tier gameplay. Aside from that, I’m hoping to see some interesting player profiles that show off these die-hard gamers. I’d especially like to see some competitive moms yelling at each other on-screen.
The tournament begins on September 23 and is open to all US players who have reached level 25 in Candy Crush Saga for iOS or Android. The grand prize winner will receive a year’s worth of Gold Bars, which I imagine will come in handy for purchasing in-game power-ups and other goodies that require microtransactions.
King, the company behind Candy Crush Saga, is part of the Activision Blizzard family of companies. The publisher is under fire from a wide range of sources for allegedly maintaining a toxic workplace environment that is especially hostile to women. An Activision Blizzard lawsuit filed in July claims that women at the company are underpaid and subjected to sexual harassment, with perpetrators going unpunished. DFEH has added allegations that Activision Blizzard “suppressed” evidence in its investigation to its complaint since it was first filed. This claim is denied by the business.
