The third day at Starseries & I-league Season 6 saw two teams go out of the tournament after going down 0-3 in the Group stages. They include FaceIT Major Playoff team Complexity and the German-Danish mix Team Sprout.
Day 3 of the event had several exciting games and a few heartbreaks for North American and Chinese fans. NRG and ENCE won the Round 3 High Matches to proceed to the Playoffs. The remaining teams still have another day of matches to go before qualifying for the tournament playoffs.
While almost all the matches were really exciting, we will take a look at a select few in this article.
Renegades vs Tyloo
The two teams are not at the best of their performances and have been criticized by analysts. However, they are both showing signs of improvement and this match was quite an even match when it comes to the skill group.
The game started with Renegades winning the pistol round and the subsequent gun round. The initial 5-0 start to the game definitely gave them the big advantage required later in the match. Tyloo was able to win the next round, however, that only proved to be a trap. Their inability to win the 7th round meant that their economy was never strong. It was only in the 9th round on the back fo Xccurates 3 frags on the retake that Tyloo was able to stabilise and start winning a few rounds. Tyloo won 5 of the next six rounds to close the first half at a respectable 6-9.
[twitchtv url=”https://clips.twitch.tv/KindLongBisonBCWarrior”]The second half started in a very balanced way. We say balanced because Tyloo won the pistol round and the scoreboard was a draw at 9-9. The two teams traded rounds and reached 13-13. However, this is when Tyloo’s economy suffered a setback as they did not have a good buy going into the last few rounds. Renegades won this match, but it was much closer than the scoreboard suggests. Both the teams had a very even distribution of kills over their roster. AZR did have a decent game but it was the good start to the match which saw the Renegades take the map in the end.
With this win Renegades move onto the ‘High Bracket’ and are just one win away from qualifying for the Playoffs.
North vs Gambit
North and Gambit played against each other on Train a very CT sided map in general. However, the flow of this map is quite different from the ‘normal Train matches’. Both the teams had splendid T sides helped largely by the economics of the game. Gambit won the pistol round and the subsequent rounds to start off strong on the map. In the second pistol round, Gambit won the round, but they were unable to win the subsequent force-buys. This crippled their economy. Overall, Gambit seemed to be very weak on their CT side. They adopted different strategies such as being extra aggressive on some CT rounds while taking a very passive approach during others.
[twitchtv url=”https://clips.twitch.tv/BlightedIgnorantRhinocerosFrankerZ”]Either way, they were unable to provide any feasible defence. Gambit won just three rounds on their CT side. The lack of any feasible defence saw Gambit’s lose their sizeable lead accrued on the T side. With this win, Gambit now faces elimination in the next round of matches. Gambit will face off against Vega squadron, which is a tough CIS derby. The two teams regularly practice against each other and this makes this match-up a difficult one to win for Gambit Gaming.

On the other hand, Renegades will try to win their match and qualify for the Playoffs. The recent addition of Gratisfaction has seen the team’s performance increase by leaps and bounds. They will play against Imperial, a team that has looked exceedingly strong in their recent matches.
Mouz vs ENCE
Mousesports came into this tournament after a win at ESL One New York 2018. This team has a lot of potentials and can possibly become one of the world’s best teams. However, they are still far from achieving that kind of success, Their match against ENCE displayed how they are dependent on Snax to have a decent performance. Snax is the latest addition to the team and despite being a veteran, he has not had a good year in 2017. As such it is a bit much to ask him to perform at the top of his form so soon.
[twitchtv url=”https://clips.twitch.tv/MoralMildMonkeyTwitchRaid”]The map of choice was Mirage. While ENCE won the first three rounds based off a splendid pistol round, they faced off against the Snax wall in Round 4. Snax managed to get 3 kills in the first gun round and that resulted in Mousesports coming onboard. However, as we see from the statistics, Snax only managed 7 more frags in the entirety of the match essentially being non-effective.
Mousesports did have a very good CT side as they ended the half at 9-6. However, their Terrorist side was far from convincing. They were not able to win any rounds on their T side mostly due to the lack of synergy and coordination on the team. On Ence’s roster, Sergej did have an exceptionally good performance.
