The Overwatch Saudi Regional Tournament is set to begin tomorrow, so let’s take a look at how the event is set up.
Saudi Regional 2018
Jeddah will be host to a three-day long tournament which is scheduled to start on 21 September and conclude on 23 September. For three days, eight teams will compete for a prize pool of SAR 1,000,000 (approximately $260,000). Unlike many other Overwatch tournaments, the Saudi Regional will use the single elimination format. Teams will compete one-on-one in best-of-five matches. All four map types will be used for this purpose and the map pool will include:

Additionally, if there is a tie, a best-of-three match will take place on Oasis.
Competing Teams and Match Schedule
Eight teams have been invited to compete in the tournament and their players are all from Muslim countries, namely Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Malaysia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates. The participants include the following teams:
- Osh-Tekk Warriors
- TheRedZone
- Ricin OW
- AWz eSports
- Inferno Game Zone
- 4Dx eSports
- Inferno Game Zone Frost
- POWER eSport
Over the next three days, these teams will battle it out to reach the next stages of the tournament, starting with the Quarterfinals. The matches have been announced and the schedule looks like this:
- Osh-Tekk Warriors vs TheRedZone
- Ricin vs AWz eSports
- Inferno Game Zone vs 4Dx eSport
- Inferno Game Zone vs POWER eSport
NOTE: TheRedZone were not able to attend the event and as a result, they have automatically forfeited the match. Therefore, Osh-Tekk Warriors automatically advance to the next round.
The prize pool will be split in the following manner:
1st place – SAR 600,000 (apx. $160,00)
2nd place – SAR 250,000 (apx. $66,000)
3rd place – SAR 150,000 (apx. $40,000)
The first match of the day will take place at 14:00 UTC (14:00 GMT, 17:00 EEST, 07:00 PT, 10:00 ET) and will be streamed on Twitch.tv.
