When the Overwatch League was announced there were lots of rumors about the discontinuation of tournaments such as OGN Apex. OGN is the LAN based tournament held in Seoul, Korea. It has been the premier Overwatch tournament especially in the absence of other tournaments.
A quote from SlingShotEsports reads :
When reached for comment by Inven, a Blizzard spokesperson said “APEX will continue to be run independently from the Overwatch League,” and that Blizzard “has no plans on shutting APEX down because of the Overwatch League.”
This is definitely good news as it means that third party event organisers will be able to host their own tournaments.
