Los Angeles Gladiators sweep Atlanta Reign

In a quick and simple 3-0 sweep, the Los Angeles Gladiators defeated the Atlanta Reign, who were considered dark horses by players and fans alike thanks to them pushing the Florida Mayhem and San Francisco Shock to the loser’s bracket stage. The Gladiators successfully finish qualification for the Overwatch League Kickoff Clash finals, where they will have the chance to bring home their second Overwatch League trophy and close one of the best years the organization has ever had.

The Gladiators maintained their identity as a brawly teamfight team on Ilios, the first map of the series. The DPS dynamic duo of Kevster and Patiphan , were seemingly everywhere at once as the Reign attempted to push to the control point  multiple times, often forcing the Reign to watch flanks from spawn as the game slipped quickly from out of their hands. The map was over almost as soon as it started, going by far in favor of the Gladiators.

A successful, quite simple looking first push by both the Gladiators and the Reign on King’s Row showed that Atlanta was ready to start contending against the third place team. A huge amount of ultimates used from both sides brought the game to an extremely close tie, where Kevster’s Tracer not only stopped the Reign from completing the first point by swaying around the battlefield, but entirely dismantled the backline during the Gladiators’ push to secure the second map victory.

The Gladiators’ accelerated push through Dorado began with a placed Teleporter from ANS that caught the Reign totally off-guard. Within moments, the entire Gladiators’ squad was pushing the payload to the final point without notice, and forced their opponents to endure painfully long respawn timers as the payload continued its way up the ramp.

A similar Teleporter push from the Reign began their first push back, but did not find the same success that the Gladiators had the round before as they were of course aware of the process in the play. The Reign seemed very desperate, throwing in members one by one in dissonance to find some control on the payload, but unfortunately yielded no results.

The Los Angeles Gladiators advance to the coveted Kickoff Clash finals stage, where they can further put into play and show all the  strats and potential that have brought them great success so far this season. Their opponents are still to be determined however will soon be known.

The Atlanta Reign now head to the loser’s side of the bracket, where in the final day of the Kickoff Clash they will take on the winner of the next series from the Dallas Fuel versus the San Francisco Shock. They must win their next matchup in a convincing manner, if they want to get some revenge in the finals against the team that kicked them out of the upper bracket. We can be certain this time around this event is quite exciting.
