BIG vs Natus Vincere
The opening match for the event will be held between Germany’s BIG and the Russo-Ukrainian NaVi. While BIG had to make their way through the Qualifier, NaVi was directly invited to the New Legends stage. Yet still, both teams have played excellently throughout the event.
BIG’s entry into the tournament was questionable at the beginning. Their first game against Renegs was a success, but the following to versus Vega Squadron and compLexity resulted in losses. It was not sure whether or not the German team would continue, but as it happens, they were determined to see it through. Subsequently, BIG defeated Gambit Esports 16 – 8 in Round 4 and later OpTic Gaming 2 – 0 in a best-of-three. The Legends stage brought them much more success and even though they dropped a game to compLexity again, they were able to triumph over FaZe Clan, TYLOO and HellRaisers.
NaVi is currently ranked among the top 5 CS:GO professional teams in the world and that is a standing well-deserved. They entered the Major on an invite basis and in their first game they faced Astralis. After giving the Danish team a serious run for their money, the game concluded in 14 – 16 in Astralis’ favor. However, NaVi were able to prove their worth against FaZe Clan, NiP and Fnatic in subsequent games and enter the Finals with a record of 3 – 1. Currently, NaVi is the clear favorite of the matchup, though BIG seem to have learned their lesson from the Qualifier and now anything is possible.
compLexity vs MIBR
The second game of the New Champions stage will be between compLexity and MIBR. These two have overcome many other teams to reach this position and the matchup will certainly be worth watching. CompLexity has performed excellently in throughout the tournament, boasting a record of 6 – 1. Their only loss was handed to them by Astralis during the New Challengers stage, but the US team quickly bounced back and is still one of the top performers in the tournament.
MIBR have had a somewhat questionable run during the Major. They beat top-tier teams like mousesports, G2 and NiP, but also suffered a loss against TYLOO in their opening game. In particular, their match against Astralis was embarrassing as MIBR turned out the only team in the whole tournament to be beaten 16 – 0. With a record of 3 – 2, the deck is stacked in compLexity’s favor.
