In the previous hours, the groups for ESL One: New York have been revealed, as well as the matches that will take place during the first stage of the event.
Groups and Teams
The two groups for the ESL One: New York event have been announced. Eight teams will compete in the coming event and they will be separated into two distinct groups.
Group A will include:
- Natus Vincere (NaVi)
- mousesports
- Fnatic
- Gambit Esports
Group B will include:
- FaZe Clan
- Team Liquid
- NRG Esports
- G2 Esports
The lineup for the event was also changed somewhat. Originally, Cloud9 was supposed to take part, however, the team had to forfeit their opportunity in order to play in the BPS Istanbul 2018 event. Team Liquid were brought in to fill the empty slot.
Matches
The group stage will feature five matches per group. The Opening Matches for Group A are as follows:
NaVi vs Gambit Esports
Mousesports vs Fnatic
While Group B will feature the following matches:
FaZe Clan vs G2 Esports
Team Liquid vs NRG Esports
The opening matches will be in the best-of-three format. Following that, three more matches will take place to determine which team will advance to the Finals stage. The top two teams from each group will be given the opportunity.
The Finals stage matches will be Single Elimination in the best-of-three format. The Group A first-place winner will take on the Group B second-place team, while the Group A second-place team will face off against the Group B first-place winner. The Grand Finals match will be best-of-five.
More on the event
ESL One: New York will begin on 26 September and will run until Sunday the same week – 30 September. The prize pool for the event is $250,000, to be split be between the top four teams. The exact shares of the pool have not been announced, however.
The event will be hosted in the Barclays Center by OJ Borg as Stage Host and stunna as Desk Host. For the purposes of commentating, Sadokist, HenryG, Machine, and Pansy have been brought on board, as well as analysts SPUNJ, Maniac and Thorin.
ESL One: New York will be broadcast on Twitch.tv and viewers will have access to a number of streams in multiple languages.
