DRIVE has confirmed its investment in the Boston-based esports organization Warriors International, a company supported by DraftKings, a minority investor, in the form of esports betting operators.
The investment in Warriors International was revealed on November 10th as one of four portfolio additions. DRIVE has identified four categories of investment, including gaming networks, human efficiency, fan engagement, and data, as part of the hire of the CEO and managing partner Meredith McPherron.
In a publication, DRIVE of Meredith McPherron the CEO and managing partner of DraftKings commented: ‘The pandemic of coronavirus has accelerated technological progress, especially in the sports, gaming and media sectors where fan engagement and interaction is the vital part of life.
“These investments are suitable not only today but also tomorrow for the areas which we have identified as major drivers across these sectors.”
Warriors International is funded by Stage 1 Projects, which is located in Massachusetts, in addition, to DRIVE. Currently the organization: World Offensive and Rocket League, is the teams in Counter-Strike.
DraftKings CEO Jason Robins added: “The business cannot be in better hands than Meredith McPherron as DRIVE embarks on a new chapter and course. DRIVE has a true strategic resource for sports and entertainment communities, which allows portfolio companies to accelerate the growth and to achieve their full potential.”
DraftKings supports esports betting in U.S. sports betting markets, such as Colorado, New Jersey, and West Virginia, where it is allowed. On the latest income call, CEO Jason Robins projected that “sport wagering is, if not the most important, one of the largest sport wagering categories in the long term.”
