JDG
JDG are, for me, one of the strongest teams heading into the World Championship, and as expected, the 2022 LPL Summer Split champions are the favorites to win the whole thing (though they are not alone). Even if they didn’t make a single roster change between the spring and summer split, JDG managed to perform way above the expectations throughout the regular season.
They reached a 6-match winning streak twice, only losing 2 out of 16 encounters. JDG dropped their series against the 2022 MSI winners Royal Never Give Up, and FunPlus Phoenix, though it’s safe to say that the latter was a fluke.
But they didn’t stop there, JDG went on a roll in the playoffs, not losing a single series going 3-0 against LNG then taking down Top Esports two times in a row after 10 total games.

The only concern about JDG is that they don’t have enough international experience to fully trust them. The last time they stepped on the international stage was 2 years ago, and they didn’t make it past the quarter-finals. If JDG finds a way to perform just like they did in China, they have a clear shot at claiming the title this year.
Gen.G
Surprisingly, the 2022 LCK Summer Champions Gen.G are going to be the only non-LPL team featured in this list. This is because the rest of the Korean teams are looking considerably weaker compared to the top Chinese teams. But if you believe in the LCK supremacy, you shouldn’t worry, because Gen.G will be one of the greatest Korean representatives we’ve seen in the past couple of years.
Gen.G finally did it, after many years trying, they overcame their biggest rival, T1. Getting knocked out of Worlds 2021 by Edward Gaming (who ended up becoming the world champions) in the semifinals was a huge blow, which is why they decided to revamp their roster.
We have to give a special mention to Chovy, who has been considered to be one of the absolute best Korean mid laners for the past couple of years, and now he finally has a great team to back him up. It’s safe to say that this team is one of the biggest threats in the competition.
Top Esports
Top Esports could be considered a similar team to JDG. Mainly because they didn’t make any changes during the off-season, yet they managed to obtain better results compared to their spring split run (5th in regular, 2nd in playoffs). Just like JDG, Top Esports completely dominated the summer regular season, only losing 2 series out of 16.
The most interesting thing about this team is that they can rely on every single member to pull-off a carry performance and win a game entirely by themselves. With Knight’s infinite champion pool and Jackeylove’s amazing teamfighting capabilities, Top Esports will never lack a star player in any of their games.
And we can’t forget about the rest of the players because every one of them is playing incredibly well. I expect Tian to have one of his best tournaments and we could be seeing him back to his old 2019 form, the one that allowed him to win the world championship under the FunPlus Phoenix wings.
Now, even though they lost twice to JDG in the playoffs, I wouldn’t consider them to be a much weaker team.
