Battlefield 2042 community outraged after Dice discontinues secondary game mode

After an official post, DICE confirmed they have discontinued another game mode in Battlefield 2042 as Hazard Zone has failed to “work” within the Battlefield player base. Earlier this week, DICE decided to remove the new 128 player mode implemented on Battlefield 2042, which hasn’t been received well by fans of the franchise. With the discontinuation of another mode in the game, it is safe to say that the players aren’t happy at all.

A Lot of discussions have started surrounding the issue as the player base’s most common opinion is that the mode itself had a lot of potential but was definitely unfinished and unpolished on release, while as well not receiving updates through its running course.

Hazard Zone was Battlefield 2042’s take of the insanely famous Battle Royale genre. It would send squads of players with the mission of finding data drives and competing against each other for them. Despite DICE’s ideas and objectives, the model implemented has failed to work as expected. While Hazard Zone will continue to be in the game, there won’t be any active work or further updates on the mode from the developers. It will only be supported for critical bugs and error fixes when discovered or required.

The original post was shared to the community by a Redditor with the username u/ImSaimo, who posted a screenshot of the official message from DICE. The developers explained the reason behind the decision and what fans could expect moving forward. They clearly stated that the mode wouldn’t be closed, however no further content updates would come.

“One final piece of news for you to take away from today’s video – we’re winding down future development on Hazard Zone. All of us on the team had great ambition and high hopes for this new Battlefield experience throughout our development, but we’re the first to hold our hands up and acknowledge that it hasnt found the right home in Battlefield 2042 and that we’ll benefit greatly from letting our focus and energy stay on the modes we see you engaging most with.

Hazard Zone will stay as part of the experience, we’re not switching it off, but beyond addressing critical errors and odd behaviors that may appear in the future, we’re no longer actively developing new experiences or content for the mode, and you’ll find that maps that we release across our seasons will not be supported in Hazard Zone.”

The most upvoted player opinion within the post, mentioned most likely the lack of success was due to the game not starting or becoming a free to play model. Competing against free to play battle royale games such as Call of Duty Warzone, Fortnite or Apex Legends, is basically impossible when you require to pay for the game first.

Hopefully we will see the new available resources used well for the other game modes currently available for the game, as of now the community remains with low expectations in regards to the future of the game.
