Team Alliance are the winners of the MegaFon Champions League Season 2. The majority-Swedish team had a straight run through the tournament to eventually win the tournament. While they did feature in some close games, there was little doubt about the winners of the event.
The tournament had a prize pool of ₽ 600,000 RUB (≃ $9,045 USD). It featured sixteen teams and had a Best of Three single elimination format. Each match was an elimination and as such the risks of the tournament were pretty high for the top teams. Alliance was one of the eight teams to receive a direct invite to the event. The remaining teams had to go through various open qualifiers in order to secure their place at the event.
With this victory, Alliance secures their last event of 2018. It is a good step forward for the team as they hope to start 2019 on a positive note.
The Grand Finals
The Grand Finals saw Alliance facing off against Happy Guys in a BO3 Finals. The first game saw Alliance pick up the Dazzle + Huskar combination. For Happy Guys, there was simply no chance as they could not ensure a stable mid-game. Alliance ran away with the game and the final score was 30-8. Needless to say, Alliance built their early advantage and continued gaining with every passing minute. For Happy Guys, the fast end meant that they could focus on the next game and prepare a comeback.
The second game saw Happy Guys pick up a carry Tide hunter. The hero which rarely sees play as a carry role definitely had a huge impact in the game. In addition to Tide, they also picked up four different range heroes in addition to Drow Ranger. It definitely helped Winter Wyvern to deal a lot of damage from a very long range. Happy Guys simply had a much better performance as a team. They were able to catch out various Alliance members off-guard and take small advantages every time. In the end, happy Guys was able to tie the series 1-1.
The third game saw both teams put three members each in the bot lane. It was a strong start for Happy Guys as they were able to punish Morphling. However as the game progressed, the level increase for Alliance was more useful. Michael ‘miCKe’ Vu was unstoppable on the Morphling. While Happy Guys were more than happy to take the fight to the other heroes, there was little they could do to Morphling. With time, Alliance was able to build up a huge advantage and win the tournament.
